WISE AND WORTHWHILE: MASS SUMMER CONVENTION

On behalf of everyone at MASS, I want to thank those who attended the 2019 Summer Convention July 7-10 in Biloxi. If you were there, then you know first-hand that it was a wise and worthwhile investment of your time.

Superintendents wear many hats as part of their day-to-day responsibilities, and they can get pulled in many different directions. Every now and then, it helps to bring everyone together to focus on issues that matter to us as educators, leaders and Mississippians. We also appreciate the time our guest presenters spent helping us better understand many of those issues and ways we can work together to move Mississippi schools forward.

In recognition of the Association’s 50 th anniversary, we organized a special program to honor former MASS leaders who established a strong foundation that we continue building on. Another convention highlight was a luncheon featuring candidates for governor and lieutenant governor. In addition to soaking up new information, I saw attendees making new connections and engaging in productive conversations with their peers. Networking is always one of the most valuable takeaways from our meetings and events.

As we prepare for a new school year, I hope the 2019 Summer Convention provided actionable ideas that superintendents can use to improve the performance of their schools and districts.
